Stories have always been part of Cathal Flynn-Post's life. Born in Toronto to Irish parents, he spent much of his childhood between Canada and Ireland, where summers were often spent exploring ancient castles, medieval graveyards, and forgotten ruins with his grandfather, a respected local historian from County Kilkenny. Those experiences sparked a lifelong fascination with history, archaeology, and the stories hidden beneath our feet.
That fascination led him to study Archaeology and Anthropology at Wilfrid Laurier University before later pursuing a career in computer programming and information technology. For many years he balanced family life, a successful career in IT, and a dream that quietly refused to disappear: writing novels. After years of planning and countless unfinished drafts, he finally began writing his first novel, The Brandon House. Four books later, the George Ryan Archaeological Thrillers continue to take readers around the world.
His novels bring together the two worlds that have shaped his life: a deep respect for the past and an understanding of the technology influencing the present. Through George Ryan and Áine O’Neill, Cathal explores how history continues to echo across generations, often revealing that the greatest mysteries are not lost, but simply waiting to be discovered.
Travel plays a central role in Cathal's writing. Rather than relying solely on research, he visits the locations featured in his novels, believing that readers deserve authentic settings and believable experiences. Whether walking through ancient archaeological sites in Orkney, exploring the Irish countryside, surfing Canada's west coast, or following history across Peru, he wants readers to experience each destination as though they are travelling alongside George Ryan and Áine O'Neill. He lives in Oakville, Ontario, with his wife of more than thirty years, Marcie, and remains a proud father to his daughter, Aisling.
